Buds & Bugs, the new show at the Outstanding In Its Field Gallery, examines the flora and fauna of the garden through the works of 12 Vashon artists, July 7 – 30, 2023. The show includes garden art, art glass, painting, sculpture, origami, photography, and pastels. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Vashon-Maury Island Garden Club. The Gallery is located at 10524 S.W. 188th St, just west of Sawbones, and will be open Fridays – Sundays, Noon – 5 pm, and weekdays by appointment by calling 206.419.0199.

The First Friday celebration, July 7, from 5 pm to 8 pm, will include the chance to meet the artists, enjoy fresh-baked treats, and a performance by Gus Reeves in the gallery’s party pasture. Attendees are welcome to bring blankets or camp chairs.

The Vashon-Maury Island Garden Club was founded in 1952 and promotes fun and interest in gardening among Islanders while educating club members and the larger community on environmentally sound gardening practices and the preservation of native plants and wildlife through educational programs and charitable projects. Outstanding In Its Field Gallery is open April – October each year with monthly themed-exhibits featuring Vashon Island Artists almost exclusively. Additional shows planned for 2023 include The Dog and Cat Days of Summer, Of a Feather, The Spirits of Autumn. The gallery will also be open for the VIVA Art Tours in May and December.
